SINGER & SONGWRITER, GYASI CLARKE

Gyasi Clarke is a singer/songwriter from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Music has been a part of his life as long has he can remember. Around the age of 13 he began taking bass lessons. He went on to play with 3 bands where he sang and played bass guitar. In 2011 he purchased his first guitar and began writing songs. He gained popularity with his covers that he posted on Facebook and YouTube. His live performances captivate his audiences and is enjoyed by all ages.

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve had band from kindergarten to high school. At the age of 13 I began playing the bass guitar and went on to playing for 3 different cover bands, where I also sang. After graduating from St. Croix Educational Complex High School in 2009 I moved to Tallahassee Florida to attend Tallahassee Community College. While enrolled there, I began learning how to play the guitar and began writing songs. I eventually transferred to Barry University in Miami, Florida after obtaining an Associates in Arts from TCC in 2013. While in college, I obtained a job as a Wire Technician for AT&T in Coral Springs Florida. It was a stressful time being a full- time student at Barry University as well as a full- time employee AT&T. With the support of family and friends I pushed through and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology with a specialization in Networking in 2015. I continued working at AT&T as a Wire Technician for one more year until I decided to take a leap of faith by resigning from the company and returning to St. Croix to pursue my dreams of becoming an artist.

I returned home in December of 2016. From then until now I have been performing at venues such as The Lamp Post Bar and Lounge, Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort and Spa, and The Buccaneer Resort. Up until this point I’ve written about 20 songs and I perform some of them at my gigs. Almost a year since working with AT&T, many Caribbean islands were devastated by two Category 5 hurricanes within 14 days of each other. This is what inspired me to write ‘Caribbean Strong’. The song was written as a relief for those affected by the two hurricanes. This wasn’t the original way I planned my radio debut as a Singer/Songwriter but I felt that it was something that needed to be done to remind the people of the Caribbean that we are still strong regardless of the destruction caused by the two storms. In the future, I plan on releasing album and having my music distributed worldwide.
